The Lipizzaner Spring Ball 2000

The Lipizzaner Ball is almost here again and will be held at the Lipizzaner Centre on September the 2nd 2000. This prestigious event is a must for every social calendar. It is our main fundraiser for the year with tickets priced at R750 per person. Tables for ten are R7500, and tables for 8 are R6000.

This glittering and elegant affair is well worth attending, and it helps to know that it is contributing to such a worthy cause!

I hope you will join us in honour of our noble Lipizzaners.

For further information please telephone Jo Welch on (011) 468 2719 or Mrs Jackie O'Donovan on (011) 702 1546

Trip to The Spanish Riding School

In September last year, the riders from the Lipizzaner Centre fulfilled a dream. They went to visit the Spanish Riding School in Vienna. After months of fundraising, and wondering whether or not they would "pull it off", they finally managed to get enough money to fly them all to Austria, and to visit the Spanish Riding School and the Federal Stud at Piber. The riders watched training sessions at the Spanish Riding School, and were able to see three performances. Meeting the Austrian riders was quite an experience.

During their visit to the Federal Stud, two mares were purchased for breeding purposes, and also a four year old stallion, Neapolitano Romida, the first of the Neapolitano line to be at the Lipizzaner Centre for many years. He will be a great asset to the Lipizzaner Centre, and his rider, Pam Rogers, has recently begun his training. He will also be used for breeding, which provides new blood from Piber.

Sponsorship Schemes to help the Lipizzaners of South Africa

The Lipizzaners need your help

For thirty-six years the Lipizzaners of South Africa have delighted audiences with their graceful, elegant performances which are comparable to those given at the world-famous Spanish Riding School in Vienna. Thanks to the selfless dedication of the ladies who train and ride these stallions, often working for long hours without pay, the art of Classical Riding, in South Africa, has been upheld for all these years.

It is unthinkable that we should lose the Lipizzaners, and their traditional Sunday performance due to the lack of financial support. However, the Lipizzaners are in need of *your* help. In these troubled times, the value of these Lipizzaners to South Africa is often overlooked. A haven of traditional European culture, in the heart of Africa is indeed unique. And a high, aristocratic culture. One that values beauty and elegance, one that rises above the tide of the modern world, the tide that seeks to destroy graciousness and purity, and replace it with drab, mass-produced pseudo-"culture".

In order to make the Lipizzaners financially sustainable, the Directors of the Lipizzaner Centre have initiated three mutually beneficial sponsorship relationships. The most exciting of which is the Champion of the Lipizzaners adoption programme.

The Friends of the Lipizzaners: this is suited to students, families, small companies, and generous individuals, and contributions are made at a level below R10,000 per annum.

The Patron Programme: this is where contributions are made of R10,000 per annum, for a period of three years. Patrons will receive twenty tickets a year for any Sunday performance, and preferential booking for the annual Lipizzaner Spring Ball, a prestigious event in the social calendar.

Patrons will also have their names published in the Sunday performance programme as well as the programme for the highly successful Carols by Candlelight of which there are nine performances.

The Champion Programme: where donations of R50,000 upwards per annum, are made over a three year period.

Champions will receive:

- preferential booking for the Spring Ball where they will be formally recognised and presented with a scroll

- availability of the horses for a special function at the Champion's office or home

- availability of the Centre as a venue for clients or guests including a performance by the stallions

- a company insignia or individual's name on the saddle blanket of the chosen horse

- a company insignia or individual's name on flags outside the Centre

- a plaque of the company's insignia or individual's name outside the stable of the chosen horse

- availability of the area for a Christmas party or similar function

- four permanent, personally named seats at Sunday performances
